Eastern Caribbean Cruise - Jan/Feb. 07

We escaped the Rochester weather this year with a 10 day cruise on the Sun Princess to the eastern Caribbean. I'd never seen this part of the world, other than visiting Cuba with my parents when I was 9 or 10. We first spent a couple days visiting my cousin Ann Lindenmayer in North Port, just south of Venice, FL.Then we met up with our friends, Paul and Carolyn Gorski, and sailed from Ft. Lauderdale on Monday, Jan. 29th After a couple days at sea, we visited Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, Martinique, and St. Thomas/St. John on successive days. After a day at sea on the return trip, we visited Princess Lines private island, Princess Cay.

Our route.

With our friends, Paul and Carolyn Gorski.

On most of the islands we visited, we took a "Best Of" tour which took you up to a high point overlooking the harbor. Here we are at the Shirley Heights Interpretation Center.

Here and at right, the historic Nelson's Dockyard, built in 1725 and used as the Admiral Nelson's English naval base in the West Indies.

Our tour guide.

St. John's, capital of Antigua, from the ship.

St. Louis cathedral (shot from the same spot as at left with my telephoto lens).

St. Louis below and on the right. To counter hurricane damage, the interior ceiling was built like a ship's hull with pitch waterproofing.

The Antigua museum where we studied the history and geography of the island.......

While our friends the Gorskis had fun on a party boat.
